GWR FM, or Great Western Radio, is a United Kingdom comercial radio station in Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas. The station was formed in 1985 after Bristol based Radio West, then undergoing financial difficulties, was merged with Wiltshire Radio. The station is plays a mix of popular music, generally from the current singles chart. The station presents little in the way of speech except in the form of hourly local news and Late Night Love - a networked relationship chat show. BBC Radio Bristol The company which owns GWR, the GWR Group, have expanded through the late 1980s to purchase other stations throughout the country. Many UK stations now follow the GWR format. It is the largest radio company in the UK. The GWR Group is currently undergoing a merger with its competitor Capital Radio. The name, GWR, is a reference to the Great Western Railway.
